Christian Science
Nursing Care

Additional Services
(outpatient)

Outpatient or emergency care is available any time of day for individuals who can come to Wide Horizon for care. We commonly provide services that can be accomplished in a short time, for example:

  • Cleansing and bandaging wounds

  • Nail care

  • Assistance with a shower and hair shampooing.

 

Please call and make arrangements before you come or bring someone for outpatient care. 

 

Small children and minors may receive outpatient services as long as one parent or legal guardian accompanies them.

 

Requirements

  • Generally, all outpatients should already be receiving Christian Science treatment from a Christian Science practitioner listed in the current issue of The Christian Science Journal before they come to Wide Horizon, Inc.

Supervised
Independent Living

Horizon House offers an atmosphere of home - “the dearest spot on earth” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p.581.)  The charming, cozy rooms are beautifully and uniquely decorated and provide stunning views of the Front Range, Rocky Mountains, and Great Plains.  

 

Our residents regularly comment that they feel the inspiration and spiritual renewal that comes from living in this beautiful setting and joining our vibrant community.

Horizon House provides a Supervised Independent Living program for our residents who are:

  • Relatively independent and active,

  • Require minimal supervision, and

  • Seeking to participate in our community and uplifting activities. 

In addition to providing a fully furnished room, TV, WiFi access, and kitchenette, our Horizon House residents receive:

  • Three meals a day,

  • Housekeeping services, and

  • Laundry services.

Christian Science
Nursing Care

Primary Services
(inpatient)

Our Christian Science Nursing inpatient care serves as Wide Horizon, Inc.’s primary service for the community. 
 
Our experienced Christian Science nurses calibrate our services to the needs of each patient: 

  • Some of our patients are mostly independent but require light inpatient care. 

  • Other patients need more support and therefore are given more care and assistance for several hours per day.

  • Christian Science nurses attend to the practical needs of patients who are having difficulty with:

    • Eating or retaining food, 

    • Breathing, 

    • Moving about, 

    • Being confined to bed,

    • Caring for a wound, and

    • Overcoming the effects of a fall.


Light or Moderate Inpatient Care

  • Christian Science nursing care inpatients receive the following services if needed:

    • Daily dressing and grooming,

    • Bathing and toileting,

    • Use of mobility aids,

    • Minor food modifications, and

    • Gentle reminders.
       

Advanced Inpatient Care

  • The advanced levels of care for patients under Christian Science Nursing Care may receive assistance in one or more of the following areas: 

    • Full bed care,

    • Preparation of special meals and nourishment, including food modifications,

    • Individual feeding, 

    • Cleansing and bandaging of wounds, and

    • Special care when overcoming the effects of a fall or injured limb. 

 
Requirements

  • All patients must be receiving daily Christian Science treatment from a Christian Science practitioner listed in the current issue of The Christian Science Journal.

  • All patients are expected to be actively studying and practicing Christian Science.  

 
Meals and Activities

  • Patients may eat meals in the dining room of the main building or choose to have them served in their rooms.     

  • We provide a variety of activities each day for our inpatients to demonstrate a normal range of activity. These activities include listening to the Daily Bible Lesson, group discussions, walking, or being taken for trips along our paved campus trails.
